The big news: Tickets to the Oct. 22 Psychedelic Furs/Jesus and Mary Chain concert at The Astro Theater in La Vista go on sale today at 10 a.m. Tickets will run $59 to $99. There’s much buzz for this show, which could actually get me out to The Astro for the first time. Frankie Rose (Dum Dum Girls, Crystal Stills) opens. Get yer tickets here at 10. Good luck.

Tonight at The Sydney local ambient/slowcore/indie band The Ivory Claws headlines a show with The Bedrock and Little Rooms. I’m not familiar with any of these acts, but the few Ivory Claws tracks I’ve listened to are intriguing. $10, 9 p.m. 

Tomorrow night (Saturday) it’s back to The Sydney for Lincoln indie/alt rock band Univese Contest. The band has made The Sydney their second home.  Universe Contest opens at 9 p.m. followed by Benson Soul Society until close. Just $5! 

Also Saturday night, there’s a free indie-punk show at fabulous O’Leavers with Cupholder, Dip Tet (members of Ideal Cleaners, Halfwit, FACE), and Valley Street (self-proclaimed ‘Millard-core’ band). 9 p.m. and, like I said, it’s free!

Sunday night, Bloomington’s Murder by Death headlines at The Waiting Room. They call their sound “gothic country,” which is a pretty apt description, and have released albums on Bloodshot and Vagrant. Their single, “Coming Home,” was used in Inglorious Bastards promos and Sons of Anarchy. Wildermiss opens at 8 p.m. $35.

Also Sunday night, Kansas City alt rock band MellowPhobia headlines at Reverb Lounge with Wood Hoops and LYXE. $13, 8 p.m.

Urban Heat play with Twin Tribes Sunday night at Reverb Lounge.

Here we go:

Tonight at The Sydney, Lincoln slam-bash noise-rock trio Dip Tet headlines a rock show. Joining them is newish noise-rock trio In Tongues, a band that features long-time LinOma indie-punk veterans Robert Little, Jason Ludwick and Boz Hicks. Opening the evening is Radical Sabbatical, who I don’t know, but maybe you do (or maybe you should)? $10, 9 p.m.

Moving on to Saturday, it’ll be another red-hot night at fabulous O’Leaver’s for practically a mini-festival with five – count them five! – bands on the bill. Headlining is Omaha’s favorite Latin punk rockers Las Cruxes. Joining them is a gaggle of bands I haven’t seen nor heard before: Peach Paw, Frankie Chairo, Saving Fiona and Sundown Effect. Look, it’s like one of those mystery bags you get at the comic shop – you never now what’ll be inside, but it’s never boring. And… it’s free! Bands start at 9 p.m. (gonna be a long, hot night). 

Also Saturday night, ‘90s St. Lous ska band The Urge headlines a sold-out show at The Waiting Room. They remind me of a time before Saddle Creek Records when they, along with 311 and a host of Get Go bands, dominated the Ranch Bowl stage and everyone read SLAM Omaha. Joining them is Blue Moon Ghetto and new band Mad Mad Heart. Curtain at 8 p.m. 

Then there’s a couple hot shows on Sunday night.

Philly’s Slaughter Beach, Dog began as a side project by Jake Ewald, the former frontman for indie-emo band Modern Baseball. Their full length was Crying, Laughing, Waving, Smiling, released last September on Lame O Records. These guys got a West Coast easy-living sound even though they’re from the rugged, cold East Coast. Go figure. Joining them at The Slowdown Sunday night is Nashville singer/songwriter Erin Rae. $25, in the big room, starts at 8 p.m. 

Also Sunday night, so-called Texas “darkwave” duo Twin Tribes headlines at Reverb Lounge. We’re talking ‘80s synths, chiming guitars, drum machines, black clothes, eye liner, fake accents, etc. Joining them is fellow ‘80s-style electronic/synth trio Urban Heat and Brooklyn synthy post-punk trio Bootblacks. No doubt this show could be shit-ton of fun if they can get people to dance. 8 p.m., $20.

No indie shows this weekend. Is this the Cornhusker effect? No, it’s been pretty much like this all year. Should have gone to the Diners show on Wednesday night, eh. Like I said, when you have a chance to go to a touring indie show — any touring indie show — do it. You never know when the next one will be coming through…

That said, there is one show happening tonight…. at Bodega’s Alley in Lincoln.

Dip Tet is a noise-rock trio that consists of Lance Fiedler (F.A.C.E., Halfwit, Gripping), Mike Keeling (Ideal Cleaners, Wondermonds) and Dan Jenkins (Ideal Cleaners, Halfwit, Gripping).

Jenkins reached out earlier this week, saying the band has been together for a little over a year after the dissolution of Gripping. Their first show was in July 2022, and tonight is only their 7th show — a tape release show for their self-titled debut album. 

Joining Dip Tet is Lincoln old school rockers Dirty Talker and The Credentials. Show starts at 9 p.m. at Bodega’s Alley, 1418 O St. in Lincoln. No price listed, so who knows, maybe it’s free (but I doubt it). 

I typically don’t list Lincoln shows, but hey, it’s the only show in the state this weekend, except for this one at The Slowdown tonight…

The Buttertones are headlining at Slowdown, Jr. These guys used to tour with The Rev. Horton Heat on occasion. According to Wiki, members of the band were connected to the Burger Records sex misconduct scandal of 2020, which led to half of the band splitting. They have a new line-up as of 2022. Tucson duo New Misphoria are touring with them and may be worth the price of admission alone. 8 p.m., $20.
