ADULT. plays tonight at Reverb Lounge

by Tim McMahan, Lazy-i.com

Busy Tuesday.

There’s a goth dance party going on tonight. Detroit electroclash / electro-punk band ADULT. brings their synth-style techno to the Reverb. The duo of Adam Miller and Nicola Kuperus have had their last few albums released by Dais Records, including the most recent, 2022’s Becoming Undone. Opening are two EDM up-and-comers — LA-based masked man Kontravoid and fellow Angelinos Spike Hellis. This is a show that should have been held in a converted Meatpacking District warehouse circa 1988. Bring your (leather) dancing shows. 8 p.m., $17.

Meanwhile, just a stone’s throw away at The Waiting Room, Southern Culture on the Skids returns. The Chapel Hill twangin’ trio has been at it for over 30 years. Their latest, At Home with Southern Culture on the Skids, was released last year on Kudzu Records. Opening is Denver’s Dressy Bessy a.k.a. Tammy Ealom, whose latest album, 2019’s Fast Faster Disaster was released by Yep Roc. You get both for $20. Starts at 8 p.m.

Karen Meat and the Computer at O’Leaver’s Jan. 30, 2016. Karen returns to O’Leaver’s tonight.

by Tim McMahan, Lazy-i.com

I’m out of town so I’m going to miss all this goodness happening this weekend. Starting tonight…

There’s a strong triple-bill at fabulous O’Leaver’s: Dressy Bessy, Karen Meat and Jason Steady. Des Moines’ Karen Meat plays indie pop and is a favorite among the folks in Cursive, who have toured with her in recent years. Her last album You’re An Ugly Person, came out in 2018.

Denver’s Dressy Bessy has been kicking it around since ’96. Her latest is 2016’s Kingsized on Yep Rock.

And of course we all know the genius that is Jason Steady. $10, 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, over at The Brothers Lounge tonight, Kansas City “drug rock” band Drugs & Attics has the center slot, with our boys Those Far Out Arrows kicking things off and hip-hop master Marcey Yates at the top slot. $5, 9 p.m.

And over at The Waiting Room tonight Matt Whipkey opens for former major label act Red Wanting Blue. $15, 8 p.m.

Tomorrow night (Saturday), the legendary combo of Wolf, Siebken and Hug — i.e., Bad, Bad Men — unfurl their full force at The Brothers Lounge with one of my all-time favorite Omaha bands, The Lupines. $5, 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, NY duo Washer headlines at O’Leaver’s. Hussies and The Natural States also are on the bill $7, 10 p.m.

Finally, there’s a Clem Snide solo show in a living room located in the zip code 68106 Saturday night. Buy a ticket, receive the location, rock with 40 of your closest friends. For more information, go to https://undertowshows.com/collections/clem-snide/products/omaha-ne-july-13.

And that’s all I got. If I missed your show, put it in the comments section. Have a great weekend.

Downtown Boys have been added to the 2017 Maha Music Festival lineup.

by Tim McMahan, Lazy-i.com

Did anyone notice that the line-up for this year’s Maha Music Festival had a slight change?

Downtown Boys, who describes themselves in Wiki as a “bi bilingual political dance sax punk party from Providence,” has joined the line-up, replacing Surfer Blood. Downtown Boys has released material on Don Giovanni Records; they signed to Sub Pop this past February.

See Through Dresses yesterday dropped the first single off their upcoming sophomore album Horse Of The Other World, titled “Violet.” Very dreamy! Check it.

I don’t know who this Robert Hinrichs is other than he lives in Lincoln and he’s trying to give James Murphy a run for his money. His video for “Can U DigIt,” dropped today. The track is off Hinrichs’ latest album on Interrobang (2017, Tremulant).

Tonight at fabulous O’Leaver’s it’s long awaited return of Denver band Dressy Bessy (Kindercord Records). Opening is Arc Flash, Uh Oh and Nathan Ma and The Rosettes (whew! that’s a big line-up). $7, 9 p.m.

The announcement that got pulled back last week is back on again:

Conor Oberst announced that he’s scheduled “an intimate solo show” Nov. 3 at the The 40th Street Theater, 4006 1/2 Hamilton St. Originally a Vaudeville theatre, it recently was restored to its former glory by former Bensonite John Hargiss. WOWT did a story on the restoration last month, which you can read here.

Tickets for this special show go on sale at Pageturners Lounge, and at Ground Floor Guitars and Almost Music in the Blackstone District.  Tickets are $35 cash only, and there is a strict limit of two tickets per person. Theater capacity is 200. The show will be seated, first come first served, with doors opening at 7 p.m. Opening the show is Hartford/Focht (Matt Focht and wife Crystal Hartford).

Couple shows tonight.

At fabulous O’Leaver’s Dressy Bessy headlines. The Denver indie band, which released music on Kindercore back in the ’90s and early ’00s, is associated with the Elephant Six Collective and The Apples in Stereo, among others. Their new album, Kingsized, is out on Yep Rock. Opening is our very own Little Brazil and Arc Flash. 9 p.m., $8.

Also tonight, M34N STR33T is performing as part of a “walking interactive performance art event on South 10th Street.” They’re literally giving away beer (Brickway) and food at the gig (but you have to have a ticket), which is sponsored by Heartland 2050, and which you can learn more about here. Mean Street goes around 8 p.m., rain or shine (It’ll probably be moved inside). Go to the event page and follow the rules regarding free tickets.
