Better late than never…

There are two prime-time events tonight. Top on my list is Tennis at Slowdown Jr. with Kosha Dillz. Holiday Shores was originally on this show, but no longer is listed on the Slowdown or 1% websites. Take that for what it’s worth. $10, 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, over at The Sandbox, 2406 Leavenworth, it’s the final gig for Bear Country. Drop by and give them all a big bear hug (I wonder if any of them got around to listening to The Trinity Sessions…). Also on the bill: No, I’m the Pilot (members of Capgun Coup), Mouthbreathers (Lawrence), Public Access  and Gag Reflex. Just $5. Starts at 9. More info at the Facebook invite.

Also tonight, a big singer-songwriter comfab is happening at The Barley Street Tavern with Brad Hoshaw, Kyle Harvey, All Young Girls Are Machine Guns and Michael Trenhalle. $5, 9 p.m.

Finally, Wagon Blasters try to blow up O’Leaver’s tonight with Dean the Bible. Go and get drunk. $5. 9:30 p.m.

Tomorrow night’s main event is Pete Yorn at The Whiskey Roadhouse at The Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs with Ben Kweller and the Wellspring. $25 (though I went to the Horseshoe website and tickets weren’t available, so it may be sold out), 8 p.m.

Not quite as glamorous but just as fun is Saudi Arabia with the Fucking Party and Dead Ringers at O’Leaver’s. $5, 9:30 p.m.

And who could forget Deerhoof at The Waiting Room with Ben Butler And Mousepad & The Show Is The Rainbow? $12, 9 p.m.

Finally the weekend ends Sunday night with Watching The Moon w/John Klemmensen and The Party at The Barley Street. $5, 9 p.m.

And O’Leaver’s closes out three whole nights of live shows in a row (how long has it been since they did that?) with Traveling Mercies, Platte River Rain and Jami Lynn. $5, 9:30 p.m.

  • No love for Murder by Death on Sunday? Gonna be a killer show, as always.

Also, “All Young Girls are Machine Guns” 😉

  • Be honest with you, I haven’t heard a lick of their music.

  • Murder By Death is fucking amazing! Dude sounds just like Johnny Cash but they are anything but country.

Tim, get out from under your indie rock (get it?) and live a little dude!

  • Dude, I’m sure they’re amazing. There’s gonna be bands that slip under my rather narrow radar.

  • I played with em last month. They rocked my socks off. Although I think he sounds a little more Elvis then Cash. You should check out his other band “Mustache” its a joke version exaggerating his fake drawl. It’s good never the less.

  • Plus AMAZING ELECTRIC CELLO WORK! and a drummer that uses an empty propane tank as a cymbol.
